Canadian Basketball Players In The NBA

Canada has always been a tank from where basketball players were dragged to the courts of the NBA. Several Canadian players have already recorded significant careers in the best basketball league of the world, with Steve Nash of course, being the most recognizable of them. However, as of lately, there much young Canadian talent that has entered the league. Several players have entered through the draft and they are expected to protagonist in their respective teams, some of them more some others less. As a matter of fact, the Canadian national basketball team is expected to get significantly better during the next few years.

This No.1 pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, Anthony Bennett is one of them. Although the 6’8” forward didn’t actually have the chance to show his potential just yet, as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the future seems to be bright for him. As a part of a team that consists of young and promising talent and playing alongside Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters and the rest of the crew, Bennett is expected to shine within the next few seasons.

His teammate Tristan Thompson has already secured a full-time starting role for the Cavs. He is gradually uplifting his performance and he is yet another member of the young Cleveland team that has a bright future, if it stays together.

Corey Joseph has also started to make his impact felt for the San Antonio Spurs. Whilst he participated in just 28 last season for San Antonio, the 22-year old guard is gradually showing his potential.

The 23-year old Andrew Nicholson, who entered the league as the 19th overall pick for the Orlando Magic, has emerged as a solid contributor off the bench for the team.

Kelly Olynyk entered the league through the 2013 NBA draft and he instantly became one of the main contributors for the Boston Celtics. Either starting or coming off the bench, Olynyk has been productive and efficient for the C’s, just what the team needed in this rebuilding phase.

Robert Sacre is also an NBA player for the Los Angeles Lakers. He was extensively used by Head Coach Mike D’Antoni during the 2013-2014 season when the Lakers experienced a bunch of injuries.

Joel Anthony is another Canadian player who plays in the NBA. He is not a member of the new blood that recently came to the league. He is now on his seventh season in the league and with the Miami Heat and he is a two-time champion. Anthony’s minutes have been reduced after the Heat brought in Chris Andersen. However, he still is a reliable defensive solution once he gets the call.

Samuel Dalembert is another Canadian veteran NBA player. He is considered as one of the top-tier centers in the league and he has recorded a respectful career.

Steve Nash is the most recognizable Canadian NBA player. A future Hall-of-Famer, Steve Nash is considered as one of the best point guards to ever pass from the courts of the NBA. At the moment, at the age of 39, he is battling hard to keep his body in a good shape, as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
