Featured Benefit Provider: La Giara
Ristorante |
La Giara gets its name from the cylindrical earthenware jars
used throughout the Mediterranean to store olive oil, grain
and, most importantly, wine. It is no surprise, then, that the
eatery named after this symbol of Italian rural life should
be a purveyor of such fine Italian, especially Sicilian, dishes
and an array of fine wines from which to choose. The comprehensive
wine list includes vintages not only from Italy, but from Spain,
Chile, California and Australia, as well. The layout of the
restaurant’s second-floor location is wonderfully appointed
with pastoral adornments and intelligently arranged, providing
ample space, and yet lots of privacy.
Eggplant and ricotta are found in abundance, and Sicilian
specialties like the clam and mussel soup top the list of
menu items that include such delicacies as swordfish, calamari,
and tuna with mint sauce. Of course, the entire range of pasta
and pizza dishes are guaranteed to satisfy even the truly
famished, while lighter fare, such as the
spinach salad with ginger and a light dressing, is available
for the less gregarious appetite. Finally, a choice of desserts,
including not one but two styles of tiramisu and a semifredo
with nuts and chocolate, perfectly cap off a meal that makes
dining at La Giara an escape from the hustle and bustle of
Taipei for a brief respite in the south of Italy.
